The Journey is Neighborhood Church’s four basic classes that provide the ground work to our church family. Since people from many different church backgrounds attend Neighborhood, this journey is designed to get to know us a little better, and to take students to the ‘next level’ - from being casual attenders to committed members, from being a “Sunday Christian” to living out your faith through the week - from living through your parent’s faith to really making it your very own!
The Journey will take you from the passenger seat right into the driver’s seat, so that you can experience your own faith. Come along for the ride -you’ll come out commited, refreshed, equipped, and excited to be a part of the Neighborhood Church family!
This first journey will take students along to learn how Neighborhood Church first began, get to know the folks in our church family, and explain why we do what we do! This journey also introduces membership to Neighborhood Church. We are convinced that you must first be committed to membership in a church family and commit to habits for spiritual maturity before you are ready for ministry. Membership and maturity are foundational for any ministry, but most especially for growth in your walk with God!
This second journey takes students through the four Basic Habits every believer needs to develop in order to grow to spiritual maturity: getting into the Word (the Bible), talking with God (prayer), giving back to God (tithing), and enjoying God’s family (fellowship).
This journey will equip you with the skills you need to begin these habits, and explain the tools you need to continue these habits! You can’t just believe, you have to put your faith into practice! You’ll truly get out of anything, what you put into it. Come and grow - you’ll see the blessings when you truly live out your faith!
"We are not meant to remain as children, but to grow up in every way into Christ." ~Ephesians 4:14-15
This third journey will teach students what the Bible says about ministry. We will look at the Five Personal Factors that continue to shape the real you. You will discover your passion, your personal ministry style, and even your spiritual gifts! By identifying the specific traits you posses in each of these areas, the ministry God has designed for you will become clearer. Finally, you’ll learn about current opportunities for service, our strategy for ministry, and what you can do to become involved (if you so desire!).
"God has given...pastors and teachers to prepare God's people for works of ministry, so the body of Christ may be built up." ~Ephesians 4:11-12
This fourth journey teaches students that they were created to fulfill God’s purpose: “The Lord has made everything for His own purpose.” Proverbs 16:4...That God planned your life mission even before you were born: “God is our Maker, and in our union with Christ, He has created us for a life of good works, which He has already prepared for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10...That fulfilling my mission brings glory to God: “I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. John 17:4...That your primary task in life is to fulfill your mission: “The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me - to tell the Good News about God’s grace.” Acts 20:24
